چکیده

Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS) is the compression of the left renal vein between the aorta and superior mesenteric artery. NCS is a rare cause of haematuria in children and its treatment remains controversial. In this paper, we report the case of a 15-year old boy with macroscopic haematuria diagnosed as NCS using renal angiography. After two years of conservative management, endovascular stenting was performed due to persistence of the macroscopic haematuria and progression of left flank pain. This resulted in the patient's gradual resolution of haematuria

Extravascular stent management for migration of left renal vein endovascular stent in nutcracker syndrome

BACKGROUND Nutcracker syndrome is an entity resulting from left renal vein compression by the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, which leads to symptoms of hematuria or left flank pain. The alternative option of endovascular or extravascular stenting is very appealing because of the minimal invasive procedures. Stents in the renal vein can cause fibromuscular hyperplasia, proximal migrat...

Posterior Nutcracker Syndrome with Left Renal Vein Duplication: A Rare Cause of Haematuria in a 12-Year-Old Boy

The nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a rare cause of haematuria. It embraces an extended nonpathognomonic spectrum of symptoms that imply a difficult diagnosis. Ultimately it may be associated with substantial morbidity and even life-threatening events. We report a rare cause if a 12-year-old boy who presented with a history of frequent intermittent episodes of painless constant haematuria. The cys...

A novel hybrid left renal vein transposition and endovascular stenting technique for the treatment of posterior nutcracker syndrome

Posterior nutcracker syndrome occurs when a retroaortic left renal vein becomes compressed between the abdominal aorta and the lumbar spine. Although open surgical approaches remain the treatment of choice, endovascular stenting has been used successfully. We describe a case of a 28-year-old man who presented with microscopic hematuria, left-sided flank pain, and testicular swelling. Computed t...

Renal Vein Stenting for Nutcracker Syndrome

APRIL 2010 I ENDOVASCULAR TODAY I 25 E ntrapment of the left renal vein (LRV) between the abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) causing the classic clinical triad of hematuria, varicocele, and left abdominal or flank pain was first described in 1950.1 Later, this array of symptoms was termed “the nutcracker syndrome” by De Schepper in 1972.2 Endovascular technology has evolved as...

Endovascular stenting for nutcracker syndrome.

Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a rare pathology manifested by pain or hematuria in males and females alike. It can be easily overlooked, and should be considered in young men or women with symptoms of extended duration. We present a case of a 54-year-old female with chronic lower abdominal pain radiating to the left thigh of 4 years in duration. Computed tomography (CT) eventually revealed engorg...
